Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
